What is Comprehensibe Input?
Comprehensible Input (CI) is language that you can understand . In Portuguese, this can be anything from someone pointing to a door and saying "porta" to reading a story meant for learners. The concept was developed by the linguist Stephen Krashen in his Input Hypothesis. According to Krashen: We acquire language when we understand what people tell us or when we understand what we read. And there is no other way it can happen. While people differ in many important ways, they do not differ in the way they acquire language. (Pg. 3) The important thing is that the input is comprehensible . If you cannot understand what we are listening or reading to, the input will be of little use to us.
